Candidate Statement

I have practiced law for 33 years and have participated in State Bar activities since 1996. These include terms chairing the Criminal Law Executive Committee and the Committee of Bar Examiners and serving as a JNE commissioner. In these roles, I have addressed firsthand the issues that confront our profession. With your support, I hope to continue my commitment by joining the Board of Trustees. If elected, I pledge to focus upon the following:

1. Promoting volunteerism to recruit new and diverse membership to State Bar committees.

2. Maintaining the high standards of admission to the California Bar while continuing to offer the greatest possible opportunity to all members of society to join the profession.

3. Continue to advance the State Bar’s initiative to promote practical training to law students in order to prepare them for the “real life” practice of law.

4. Ensuring that while the State Bar’s discipline system fulfills its mission to protect the public, it also affords fairness and due process to lawyers accused of wrongdoing.

5. Revive the State Bar’s “civility” Initiative.

6. Promote fiscal responsibility to ensure that dues are appropriately allocated and to cut waste.

I want to hear your ideas and promise to work towards a service oriented State Bar that is transparent and responsive to the needs of its members.  Thank you for your consideration.
