Kids & the Law: An A-to-Z Guide for Parents

Kids & The LawKids and the Law: An A-to-Z Guide for Parents is the first in the State Bar's consumer education series that also includes When You Become 18: A Survival Guide for Teenagers and Seniors & the Law: A Guide for Maturing Californians (also available on the bar's Web site).

Kids and the Law was first published in 1996 after a State Bar survey revealed that many kids were unclear about certain laws and the consequences for breaking them. It was revised into its current form in 2010. Print versions are now available in English and Spanish.

Kids and the Law addresses a number of issues important to parents of minor children, including:

  • curfews
  • emancipation
  • drugs and alcohol
  • dress codes
  • children's privacy
  • truancy
  • juvenile court
  • crime (graffiti, weapons, fighting, etc.)
  • driving
