California Indian Legal Services Announces Board Vacancy Thursday, October 18, 2018 Categories: News Releases There currently exists a vacancy for a California State Bar appointment seat on the California Indian Legal Services Board of Trustees. The candidate must meet the following qualifications in order to be considered for a three-year appointment: Must be licensed to practice law in California in good standing. Willing to commit to attend four quarterly Board meetings and annually, attend at least one CILS-sponsored event per year, participate in 1-2 board committees, contributing on average 1-2 hours per month between quarterly meetings, attend Board development retreats and trainings, participate in annual strategic planning sessions and fundraising efforts, make a personally significant financial contribution each year (100 percent participation from the board is expected), and actively contribute their expertise to the Board's important role in CILS' organizational and programmatic affairs including recruiting new Board members as well as community relations. Knowledge/experience and familiarity with Federal Indian law and/or issues related to the Native American community is strongly preferred. Applications will be accepted October 15, 2018 – November 30, 2018. All applications are comprised of: 1) a letter of interest and 2) resume from the individual. In their letter of interest, applicants should describe not only their interest in serving on the CILS Board, but also specific skills, experience, or areas of expertise they would bring to the Board.
