The conference — hosted by the State Bar of California, the Federal Trade Commission and the Los Angeles County Department of Consumer Affairs—will bring together legal services lawyers, law enforcement attorneys, and consumer advocates from around Southern California. A panel will discuss varieties of fraud targeted at immigrants — including scams related to immigration services, jobs, health care, housing and debt collection — as well as techniques to fight them. Other panels will cover how to communicate effectively with immigrant consumers, and advance protections for them. The goal of the conference is to build relationships and explore ways to collaborate and share resources. It’s a great opportunity to interact with others working on issues facing immigrant consumers. The conference runs from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the State Bar of California, 845 S. Figueroa St., 2nd Floor, Los Angeles, CA 90017. It is free and open to the public. Among the speakers will be Craig Holden, president of the State Bar of California; Thomas N. Dahdouh, regional director of the Federal Trade Commission; and Brian J. Stiger, director of the Los Angeles County Department of Consumer Affairs.
