Governance Task Force to develop work plan Monday, December 7, 2015 Categories: News Releases Contact: Laura Ernde 415-538-2283 barcomm@calbar.ca.gov SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 7, 2015 – The State Bar of California’s Governance in the Public Interest Task Force will meet Wednesday, Dec. 9, to develop a plan for reviewing the bar’s governance structure, with the goal of providing a report to the Board of Trustees by mid-2016. Public comment is welcome at the meeting, set for 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the State Bar’s offices at 180 Howard St., San Francisco. The task force consists of State Bar President David Pasternak as chair, board of trustees attorney members Miriam Krinsky, Jason Lee, Joanna Mendoza and Danette Meyers, and public members Dennis Mangers and Gwen Moore. “I’m looking forward to the opportunity to work with the Task Force in looking deeply at the State Bar of California to ensure it meets the highest standards of lawyer regulatory agencies in the nation and best fulfills its mission of public protection,” Pasternak said. “This is an effort that we have undertaken on several past occasions and I look forward to building on that work and if appropriate updating it, in light of the dramatic changes in the profession today.” The task force follows a similar task force created in 2011. That year, Business and Professions Code section 6001.2 required the creation of a Governance in the Public Interest Task Force, charged with improving the public protection function of the State Bar. The work of that task force led to the passage of SB 163, which reduced the size of the board to 19 members and changed the composition. The new task force will build upon that work as well as earlier reports such as the 1995 Commission on the Future of the Legal Profession. Previous Article Next Article
