During the year, 171 lawyers were disbarred and 263 were suspended for ethical violations. The State Bar prepares the report every April to show data on the numbers of complaints made against California lawyers and the average times for processing complaints through the discipline system. The report also contains information about programs designed to prevent attorney misconduct as well as the Client Security Fund, which reimburses consumers who have lost money due to attorney dishonesty.
