Mattheus Stephens is an attorney member of the State Bar of California Board of Trustees, appointed by Senator Toni Atkins in 2023.
Trustee Stephens serves as a Shareholder at Littler Mendelson, where he leverages his 30 years of trial and litigation experience to help clients navigate employment discrimination litigation. He also counsels clients on hours matters and provides trainings on preventing discrimination and harassment, including gender and LGBTQ+ training.
Trustee Stephens is a founding member and former co-president of the Tom Homann Law Association (San Diego’s gay, lesbian and bisexual bar association) and has been actively involved in the LGBT Community Center, ACLU, and the City of San Diego’s Human Relations Commission, where he served as chair. He also sat on the City of San Diego Civil Service Commission for 11 years, spending six as president, and is an ongoing lecturer at the University of California San Diego campus. Awards he has received for his work include the Gloria Steinem Communications Award and the San Diego County Bar Association Community Service Award.
Trustee Stephens received his JD from Rutgers University School of Law.
