Under state law, a lawyer referral service doing business in California must be certified by the State Bar. This law, and the State Bar Rules that specify certification requirements, are designed to protect the public.
If a lawyer referral service operates in California without certification, they are violating the law.
The State Bar welcomes information from any concerned person, group, or organization about any business providing uncertified lawyer referrals.
Before filing a complaint, please check the current list of certified lawyer referral services.
If you file a complaint against an uncertified lawyer referral service, we will review it to determine if an investigation is warranted. If so, and an investigation reveals that the business is providing uncertified lawyer referrals, the State Bar will consider all available legal remedies.
